For users like myself who roam trap lines beyond mobile coverage who have satellite messaging and data access for apps that comply with this, it would be really great if we could access the trapnz app and update results online using data when only satellite connection is available.
I’m not sure if that’s an easy to implement thing, or if I am being realistic, but figure it’s worth asking the question.
Spark app specifications to work with satellite are listed here: Satellite | Spark NZ
And One NZ have this page: Satellite Apps. One NZ.
Thanks for this Paul. I think this is needed… Trap.NZ is such an important tool in terms of navigating our traplines. We’re already getting satellite-enabled messages from our field team… it would be fantastic if Trap.NZ was also ‘always on’.
To hone in on the specific requirements…
The ‘must have’ is real-time updating of trap data so that we can follow trapper progress both from the office and with other colleagues in the field. So that would be best done by adding a ‘sync over satellite’ button to the settings screen
The ‘nice to have’ for those of us who have multiple projects and sometimes forget to open the right project before getting into the field is the ability to download a new project using the satellite coverage. This might cause bandwidth challenges.
This would expose one other current limitation in the app. At present, to view previous records for an installation, we have to go ‘installation details’, ‘View Online’, login to the web interface and then access the records. It would be great to be able to view previous records from within the app.
Cheers
David
