Also if the user is a not a member of your group, being able to add them and set permissions
Great idea. Or, even better IMO, why not assign permissions to a line and then every new trap added to that line automatically gets that lineâs permissions.
permissions to a line sounds a lot better than per trap.
I was just about to request this feature. When installing a new trap if the âassign membersâ was on the same page it would save admin time. You have to go out of the screen, search for the trap again, edit and assign the user, which is easy to forget to do when adding lots of new traps. Thanks
For the comments about lines.
Perhaps i am doing it wrong, but i run backyard trapping in a small town. Iâve got all the users all logging their own catches in Trap NZ.
All of the traps that i have are not part of any âlinesâ - Should they be?
@dbmillar If your backyard users mostly only have a few traps each, lines probably arenât going to make a big difference.
If youâve got people with larger properties, then lines are more useful because there are some data entry shortcuts that allow you to fill âdefaultâ values for multiple traps at once but which require the traps to be assigned to a line before they will work. If youâve got 20 or 30 traps to enter checks for, it saves heaps of time to say at the start âmost of these will be still set, lure OK, not rebaitedâ and then just alter the few that have caught or need reluring.
As a project admin, you may want to be able to run reports for specific sub-areas of the project. If so, making those areas into âlinesâ might be useful to your reporting.
One consideration for lines when it comes to backyard trapping is that I think the line shapes may be visible to all members of a project (although the specific traps on the line arenât), and this could be a privacy concern, plus in some locations trappers need to worry about vandalism/theft of their traps. @lenore-admin, @andy.saunders-admin, fellow forum members, please correct me if Iâm misremembering about line visibility.
This feature request is spinning off into topics covered in other feature requests.
To address the original request, are you asking for the following to be added to the Add Trap page?
We may be able to integrate an âadd userâ feature via a popup in the future.
Regarding the other requests. Most are covered in other feature requests and are certainly on our radar.
Lines are visible to everyone, however lines donât have to have a geometry, i.e. you can group installations using lines without drawing the actual line on the map. This avoids any security concerns.
You can also group installations by work areas (managed in the Beta Design Tool - slightly hidden in the new reports header in the reports section.) Work areas will be increasingly utilised to manage installations, assignments, and reporting.
