Does anyone have experience with dyeing and waxing Belisle or leghold traps? Alternatively, does anyone know if there are any companies that would do this?
We used to hot-dip Fenn traps years ago using paraffin wax to stop them rusting, it worked OK for a while. Wax blocks are available to buy from beekeeping supplies websites. Be careful with the hot wax, preferably do it outside with safety glasses on.
Hi I have been getting traps like conibear and sentinels that just come with a crappy paint finish zinc plated for about 20 years, would have done at least 600 traps, generally costs about $3 per trap. The better condition the trap the better the results, light rust will come off in the pre coating cleaning bath.
Zinc plating is a cold process so does not damage the springs
It may depend if there is anyone who dos the process close to you
note NEVER get traps hot dip galvanised as it is too hot and will damage the springs
