Editing monitoring species list on website

Kia ora,

Please see request below from data entry for tracking tunnels. The person uses the website to enter data for each tracking card and would like to be able to edit the list so only their frequently used species is visible:

“Been meaning to ask if there is a way to re-order the species list for tracking card data entry.
The common ones are spread out and I’d love them to be all in one place but at the moment it’s alphabetical.
They are
Mouse, snail, skink, insect, bird.”

Ngā mihi,
Emma.

@emma.whitton If you are the project admin, you can click in the “project categories” on the website. When you choose Monitoring species, you can untick species you don’t want to see (shortening your selection) and even add your own terms if there is a species you want to monitor that is missing. We currently don’t have the facility to order them to your personal preference. Please note, these changes effect the entire project not just you and will also be reflected in the phone app.

Thanks Lenore! I have added many new terms for the species list for monitoring as needed for the sanctuary (for example hihi banded/unbanded or kiwi pukupuku banded/unbanded for trail cameras). I think the trouble is when adding data to tracking tunnels on the website, each station has it’s own drop down of species to select, so it takes a long time to scroll through the drop down window if you have over 600 tracking cards to enter each month. So, I’d like to add the feature request for something less time consuming/repetitive for data entry, if that makes sense

@emma.whitton, if you aren’t entering data while in the field, you could always try entering it into a spreadsheet that you can customise for your project, convert to csv format, then upload the whole lot as a bulk data import.

Alternatively, the “Add monitoring records” function will let you add multiple identical records in a batch as well, which could cut down on the scrolling time.
