Kia ora,
It would be helpful if admins could edit species caught in TrapNZ. There is a current generic “bird” option for traps, however we’ve found that giving trappers the option to select a generic species is usually what they will do (despite being trained otherwise) and we have wish to be notified of any endemic and at-risk species caught in traps. It would be great to be able to remove things like “goat, deer, Canadian geese, hare, pig, other, unspecified, weka, wallaby, turkey” which are unrelated to our project and species we dont want listed.
tl;dr: may we get admin ability to edit project trapped species list? This feature is enabled for monitoring and bait stations, but not for trapping.
Yup, this is a great suggestion. The species list needs to be available under ‘Project Categories’ in the https://trap.nz/node/xxxxxxx/taxonomy page.
It would make the species list so much more manageable in both the app and dashboard. And yes, we need to differentiate between different species of bird bycatch so that we can take the appropriate action.
Thanks for the suggestion Emma!

I’m reviving this conversation as I think the current list is not serving our needs well. We are a bird sanctuary so bycatch of natives should be recorded. The list also does not cater for reptiles such as Skinks and Geckos which occasionally figure in bycatch.
Thanks Dave and Emma for raising the issues regarding species identification.
