Fish oil on my cap - advice required

Any advice on getting tuna oil out of my oil skin cap?

We had a little trap building incident over the weekend, and yes it was on my head at the time :face_vomiting:

@andy.saunders-admin I know I should be empathetic for my workmate, but, hmmm so many questions. My suggestion would be to place it in a smart trap as the lure

… hence I skipped the help line.

Looks like you can get special oilskin detergent if cold water washing is not enough, but you’ll still have to rewaterproof it afterwards. Does anyone know if the detergent is worth the money or (since it’s going to have to be re-proofed anyway) can you just use washing-up liquid and/or cornstarch as for oilstains on any other fabric?

Good intel, thanks @christina.g

I gave it a couple of goes with the washing up liquid.

Good news is the water runs off it like its new :sweat_drops:, but at the cost of my family running off while I’m wearing it

I’ll have a crack at the cornstarch, and maybe nappysan.

Lol, I love your suggestion of using his cap as a lure in the trap Lenore :joy:
I use a bar of Sard Wonder Soap for stains, it’s pretty good. Outside of that, I thought you might just qualify for a new cap Andy?

Thanks everyone, two nights soaking in Vanish spray, then two soaks in hot water, and my hat is off the menu.

Definitely has no proofing left now, so apparently:

  • Beeswax – 50% (for waterproofing and flexibility)
  • Boiled linseed oil – 50% (for penetration and durability)
  • (Optional: Turpentine – up to 10% for thinning and faster drying)

Choice !
