How do I clean an AT220 trap?

One of the two AT220 traps on our property has had a problem dispensing mayonnaise, because the mayonnaise has become clogged with animal fur at the point just above the long piece of tape that hangs down from the trap.

There seems to be a little open basin at that point.

It is a pain cleaning this out - took ages and wasn’t easy. I detached the trap and carefully cleaned with a kitchen knife, toothbrush, soft cloth and soapy water. Any good advice on safely and effectively cleaning the traps generally? They end up looking pretty heinous after 12 months or so.

Waterblast them. As long as the battery is connected, they are waterproof.

Thanks! I was worried about damaging the electronics.

Hi.
I have been using AT220s since they first were developed.
I think I’ve have experienced most of the problems that arise with them. Wouldn’t describe myself as an expert as I can only fix the minor problems.
The lure dispensing part of the trap is where I have most field issues and are the ones I can usually fix in situ.
From my experience the trap being manky is not a deterrent to rats in particular.
I give the traps a rudimental clean only; but i think you are right about cleaning out the lure holder tray occasionally.
This part of the trap is to attract pests into the kill zone but doesn’t get eaten. The animal is dead before it can empty the tray. After a period of time the lure in the tray dries out and probably loses some of its appeal.
To date I’ve been using pretty basic tools to clean the tray out. A very small trowel that fits the tray on a right angled handle would do the trick I think. But I am going to have to make it as there is nothing availble off the shelf.
A fish hook remover is reasonably effective for removing carcases and debris. You can obtain one from any fishing tackle supplier.
Goes without saying you must never do any cleaning without first unsetting the trap and disconnecting the battery.
Hope this helps.
