We usually catch about five possums each year, but we have already caught two in May alone. The person who collects the possums has increased the price from $20 to $45 per catch. I was wondering whether there is any free possum collection programme available that I may not know about.

Are you live-trapping or kill-trapping?
If you’re checking daily, you may be able to find someone interested in taking your possums away for the skin, fur, or meat (not an option for decomposing possums obviously).
Depending on the site, dead possums can be left in the bush for nature to take its course (if this won’t create an issue with smell, dogs finding the carcass, etc.) or buried.
If you’re in a more urban area with limited possum-burial options, your local council may permit wrapped carcasses to be placed in the household rubbish collection. Some people prefer to freeze carcasses until bin day, depending on collection frequency and whether your freezer allows you to keep carcasses segregated from food intended for humans.
