Peacock trap ideas

Hi

I have a farm that has a high number of peafowl on it and i was wandering if anyone has set traps to catch large nubers of them at once. Any help appreciated

Cheers brett

Welcome Brett
Ah - the old peacock - not easy to control, as soon as they see you with a gun / stick - they are off.
Several options:

  1. Multiple Large cage trap - double ended door, e.g.
Tunnel Cage Trap | Live Capture — Maintrac Group.
Pre feed the peacocks, food trail leading up to trap (calf meal works well)
Leave both doors off trap - put food in middle, get peacocks use to entering the cage to feed in the middle. They can then walk out the other end. Pre-feed for 4-5 days
Then after several days - insert/close one door fully, leave other door set up on trigger plate - put food in well past trigger plate so birds have to stand on trigger plate to get to food. Sorry to say you will only catch one at a time, unless you have 2 or more traps.
Note: some single door traps have the trigger plate well inside the trap - a peacock may not trigger this as it is do far inside.

Peacock trap version: TrapWorks Peacock Trap - TrapWorks
this will trap peacocks, but has a gap at the base of the trap door to allow for the tail - so no good for other pest species

  1. Night hunting - if you can observe where the peacocks are roosting at night (normally in a group of trees), either go out on a dark night spot lighting, or of you have a friend with a thermal scope, you can pick them off.

  2. You could design your own large multi bird trap out of reinforcing wire with covered mesh roof and a “hanging finger door” (on a slight angle) - that allows for birds to push in but not push back out again. (this is hard to describe in words).

Good luck. Share any outcomes you have, as I know many other people have this issue.

Thank you. I will look in to makeing one as there is about 60 in one mob and there are 3 mobs on the farm.

Hello - I found some images - which could be "reconstructed
Cage type like this

With an entrance door gates - more like these, but on a slight angle - enticing them in, restricting them out.

  • I hope these images appear
