Possum dough effectiveness for rats

Is Possum Dough effective for catching rats? The sellers say it is but anecdotally the few trappers spoken to say it isn’t. I need to know for imminent new public trapping. Grateful for any comments.

What attractants are in the possum dough? Is it flavoured?

My last trapline inspection results were rodent catches of 50/50 % peanut butter and possum dough.
We use the pink dough which is an aniseed flavour and smell.
The blue dough, cinnamon flavour, was a failure on our line for rodents but other trappers in different areas have had good results with the blue.

It is the standard aniseed flavour.

I’m wondering if rodents have differing flavour/diet preferences in different areas.
Experimentation with different baits usually gives an indication of what works best.
A flour blaze is sometimes good encouragement for better catches.

I’ve had a lot of success with Goodnature’s Meat Lovers’ lure, so mixing some of that in with the dough might grab the attention of rats. In North America, most weasel trappers, including the professionals, combine fresh meat and anise, which they swear by. Anise possum dough and Meat Lover’s might interest weasels and stoats, too.
