I am always on the lookout for new potential brown teal / pateke release sites, so if you think you have some nice duck habitat, large scale mustelid & cat predator control that has been operating for 3+ years please let me know.
Over the past 25 years we have released over 2700 captive bred brown teal and released them back into the wild to establish new populations, taken the species from Nationally Endangered with less than 700 birds in the wild to now “Recovering” status and back upto close to 3000 in the wild.
We have a reintroduction strategy and a site selection process which would need to be worked through, but we are always interested to hear from groups that may be interested.
