Pre-feed use (questions arising following Cam Speedy's presentation Dec 2022)

Does anyone have feedback on use of prefeed in and around tunnel traps ( DOC 200s) in areas with robin; kea; weka?
Cheers, Alec Milne

Not with robins, (but unfortuntely we’ve found in another project they learn very quickly to associate pre feed with bait inside traps), but yes sadly do with dunnock.
Now in nesting and chick raising season I limit how often I use walnuts, fat, peanut butter etc at trap entrance. Every third week seems to cut out risk of the poor dunnocks getting slammed. Meat as prefeed has no issues so far.

Hi pity I did see this before it has previously been covered in another forum, the simple answer as far as I’m concerned is don’t do it, Cam does have some good ideas but this is not one I agree with
basically all you are doing is inviting animals Weka kiwi Robins etc into a Trap Box
In the other forum the person asked the question because they started catching Robins in traps after they started using the Hansell and Gretel fat crumbs up to and into the box
cheers
