Relative Abundance Index

I am trying to add monitoring records for chew cards and have found that the list of species allowed is flawed. It has the usual pests and None, but not Missing. This is important for doing RAI analysis where the index is calculated on the number of cards in a line (usually 10). If a card is missing then it should not be counted as None, instead it should be excluded as a null value. This means that the RAI would use 9 as the divisor instead of 10. It is the number of cards (samples) in the line.
At the moment the TrapNZ reports are just totals which does not allow for the number of sample points. We want to actively record that a card is missing, just like when a trap is checked and reset with no catch.
The only way at present is to export but that still leaves a gap in the records which is not simple to correct.
What about another species entry Missing?

@kimo a project administrator can add terms into the monitoring options via the project categories Adding your terms into... | Trap.NZ Help & User guides

Yes, I forgot that I could. However I have realised that Unspecified would do for Missing cards. In most cases they are not even entered. What about having a RAI report instead of crude totals?

@kimo a good idea I will be bringing it to the developers attention.

@lenore-admin, I don’t know how easy it would be to add fields to the form, but maybe another checkbox for “missing” could go along with the existing “disturbed” checkbox? Or a “data quality/reliability” slider from undisturbed to disturbed to missing? Even better if selecting “missing” automatically changes the species detection field to a null value as well.

I’d probably use “disturbed” and a “card gone” note to designate missing monitoring devices on the existing form, but if it’s an area where there are a lot of missing cards there are probably lots of disturbed but non-missing cards too

@kimo, a TrapNZ RAI report would be awesome and make monitoring data so much more useful and accessible for community groups. Thanks for suggesting it!
