Temporarily Close an Installation

We close some possum traps over winter in case kea come down lower to find food. Could we have an option on the Trap Status on the app such as ‘Unset’ or ‘Temporarily Closed’

The status “Sprung” may work? - Just add a trap record and select the sprung state with an extra note like “Disarmed for winter” you can then filter by that term to set them all up in spring. Alternatively you can edit the main page of a trap and “Retire” it for winter (this is a fully reversable option but while in the retired state they will not be considered for your trap reports)

Thanks for the reply. Will look at those options

This may have only come in as a feature since you asked about it last year - but there is a ‘disabled’ setting under ‘trap condition’ on the app. I have used this for exactly what you have mentioned - shutting traps down for a period. This means that they still show up on the app as their lil triangles, but they are not red. I think they are black, or some other dark/faded colour. Makes it really easy to see that they are still there (unlike a ‘retired’ trap), but not just there as usual (as a ‘sprung’ trap appears).

thanks @tui_kraal you’re correct in how it’s used. Here is the link to the help doc that shows how to set disabled Changing the trap cond... | Trap.NZ Help & User guides

Just to add, it also keeps the trap nights correct for reporting purposes as it marks the trap inactive for for the whole period.

The interface for setting it in the app isn’t the best, we will work on that…
