One of the groups I volunteer with is slowly bringing in all the ‘orphaned’ gear that has just been sitting in the bush for ages. This trap is in a tunnel marked “ferret trap cover”, but it’s not one I’ve worked with before. Can anyone tell me:
My guess is sprung, based on the bone sticking out of it, but I’m not keen on poking around in the leaves to remove it till I’m 100% sure how the trigger works!

It is an old Fenn Tunnel and a couple of Fenn Traps. Tunnels were made by philproof
The Fenn traps are not used in many places any more incl the UK where they were made as they did not come close to meeting NAWAC std.
which is a pity as it is a neat setup, natural ground as a floor and no baffles to hinder animals going in, we would dig a small hollow in the ground and recess the traps so that the treadle plate sat level with the ground, then sprinkle a bit of fine leaf litter on the treadle to disguise it.
I understand that some people are still using the old tunnels as other traps will fit inside
from photo they both look to have gone off as the round bar and flat bar are touching each other, when set they will be horizontial. to be sure the treadle under the leaves is the same as a DOC trap so just get a stick and knock them around
