Over the last week I have had a large rat skin left on the lawn, all the flesh eaten, and the skin completely clean. Today I found the top half of a blackbird, hollowed out like a feijoa…I have had trapped mice and rats partially eaten in the trap, but this is something I haven’t seen before. Could it be a ferret? If so, presumably I need a different sort of trap/bait.

Hi. I’ve occasionally encountered this myself, and discovered it was cannibal rats. The freaky thing is that the rat will be eating his own relatives, Eeeewww.
